Power outage.

Around 4 am the power went out. It is now about 10 am and the power is still out. How am I posting something to the ye old blog you ask? All thanks to my Generac 13Kw Stand-by home generator. Yeah baby! While the neighbors are in the dark, with no TV and wondering if the power will come back on before the steaks thaw, I am enjoying a little Top Gear on the DVR.  The generator is powerful enough to run the major systems in the house-the well, the oil burner, air handler, and all the outlets. We pretty much have everything except central air, stove and microwave. Yes kids, even the kegerator stays cold. When the power goes out, the generator automaticly starts and then the power comes back on, automaticly shuts itself off. What sparked this purchase was the fact when the power goes out-we loose water in the house because the well has an electric pump.

Nice. If I lived in the country I’d do the same, bu I’m only ½ a mile from the local electric utility’s HQ & service center, so I’m not too worried about power outages.

Sweet! You probably will never experience a long black out. You and your neighbors are probably the first ones fixed when the power goes out! We needed the generator-when we loose power, we loose water which is not a good thing. Plus the piece of mind I have if I am working late in NYC and Laurie is home alone when the power goes out, I do not have to worry about her try to start some generator in a snow storm.

Pay no attention to the generator behind the curtain. Small generator you say? Better than not having one. Living in San Diego, as long as yours runs the fridge, everything is a-ok. You do not have to worry about freezing to death overnight or the pipes freezing or being without water.(guessing you have city water)
I needed a powerful one to run the well and the oil burner-sometimes at the same time. Never know when the oil burner will kick on while the well was pumping water. I needed a generator that could handle the demand.
