Maddie’s First Airplane Ride with Deeter the Pilot.

Catering? Can you say Revere Family Picnic at Wurtsboro Airport?

On Monday, we decided to go for a hike along the old O&W Railroad right of way that runs through Wurstboro. Somewhere on the way there, we saw a plane flying low landing at Wurtsboro airport. Laurie suggested we go watch the planes land at airport. We parked the car and strolled over to the main area where they had an old Air Force plane on the tarmac being serviced by a guy that looked like cooter from Dukes of Hazard.

We were greeted by Dane, a nice enough guy that is stuck working at an empty airport on a holiday. He asked us if we wanted to take a ride. At first we thought he was talking about the ol Air Force plane that kept stalling. But then he pointed at this plane:

We met Deeter, the pilot. Yes, his name is Deeter.  He is about 50  years old, salt and pepper hair, and loves to fly.  He was pretty cool guy and basicly flew us wherever the heck we wanted to go. We had a list of destinations. Our house, Laurie’s work, and Maddie’s school. “I can do that no problem!” is what he said. We were sold. We paid for a 30 minute ride, and climbed in.

After a few safety checks we took off!
First thing we saw was the damage done by the fire. Remember the Fire! post I wrote about a month ago? Here is some of the damage:
This is the area that was on fire a few weeks ago!

Our House!

Our House! You can see Maddie's playset, the dumpster and the fire pit.

Our House! again.

Our House! again.-The white speck by the gate is Sierra sleeping. He could not bring himself to wave.

After we flew over our house a couple of times, it was time to head off to Middletown. Laurie wanted to get a couple of good pictures where she works to hang in her office.

The picture above will look nice framed up on her new office wall, as  soon as it is built. After the fly over Laurie’s work, Madaghan put in a request from the backseat to see her school.

After we snapped some pictures of Maddie’s school, it was time to head back.  I have a video of our landing. The noise you hear in the background is not Maddie screaming although it sure sounds like it. Not really sure what it was actually, but Laurie reports that Maddie was not terrified.
