Madaghan’s Vegetable Stand

On Saturday, we brought down Harvest 2011 to Laurie’s parents house on Long Island:

The plan was to set up a Vegetable & Lemonade Stand for Madaghan so she can sell the vegetables from her garden and of course, she would keep all the money she made.

First, Laurie made a sign and put it on the car window that was parked right out in front :

Next, we got the stand ready. Ok, it was a piece of plywood on sawhorses covered by a tablecloth, but really, what else do you need?

Yes, that is Madaghan under the table

Next, we brought out all the vegetables and set them on the table:

Open!

But before we officially open, we must do a practice run:

Finally, before the first customer arrives,  what do  you do for last minute preparation? Brush your hair of course!:

Gotta...get....the knots...out...

After the practice run, the dress is on and the hair is brushed, we are now open for business:

May I offer you some squash?

First Customer!!

Second customer! (Jemma from next door!)

After the second customer, I stopped taking pictures because…we got busy! Holy cow Long Islanders looove their vegetables! Even the pickles at $5 bucks a jar sold out!

Laurie's Home Made pickles!

Sold out!! (mostly)

When all was said and done,  only half the lemonade remained, a few butternut squash and the weird looking tomatoes remained.

Maddie walked away with 50 bucks!

Bar Build 043: Bench Day Two

My father in law came up from Long Island again this morning. This bench is taking longer then expected, but it is coming out nicely. The hardest part was deciding on the actual height of the bench; the part where your hiney actually goes. We settled on 15″ from the floor, with 3″ of foam added that should be about 18″. I wanted to be as close as a restaurant booth as possible.

Here are today’s pics:

Ripping plywood in the garage.

First Layer being nailed down

Next is a pic of Dad slacking on the job. The bottom part is the correct height, but the back cushion is NOT going to be that big! I borrowed the couch cushion just to get an idea.

Slacker.

Scond layer supports

Second layer done

Up next is putting the rest of the plywood down for the bench and plywood for the back.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Laurie’s flight leaves Sunday at 12 noon. She is going to Michigan for the week on business. (Read: lectures in the day, dinner and drinks at night). Maddie is spending the week with two out of  three sets of grandparents this week. Sunday through Wednesday she will be with the Grandma Josie and Grandpa Choo Choo; Wednesday through Friday she will be with Grammie Pammie and Grandpa J. Tonight we’re driving her out to Riverhead (LIF).

  Long Island Fun

This time, I smartened up and driving out right after work instead of going upstate than back down. Another weekend on Long Island…. *sigh*

By the way: I will be by myself for this week. If anyone feels bad for me-feel free to invite me over for dinner.

LIF and the Air Conditioner

Yesterday on the way home from Long Island, we discovered that the AC was broken. Of course it had to break during the first 90 degree day of the summer. So, sitting on the Cross Bronx expressway in traffic was extra special. Breathing in fresh fumes from the trucks combined with someone’s extra loud radio makes for a fun filled LIF experience. What is LIF you ask?

LIF is not a word!

Yes, I Know that. Thank… You. [sigh]

LIF stands for Long Island Fun. LIF is all encompassing. LIF is the drama involved with packing than unpacking than packing and unpacking again. LIF is sitting on the Cross Bronx expressway in traffic crawling to (or from) the Throgs Neck Bridge. LIF is a new word I’ll be saying / writing alot. It is me bitching about everything Long Island with one simple word: LIF.

Back to the AC-

I am not really sure what is wrong with it, hopefully it just needs to be recharged. Laurie is going to ask some of the mechanics at her job to take a gander at the AC.

In addition to the AC, the Saturn needs four tires. Two fronts are bald and one of the rear tires slowly leaks.

Luckily, across the street from Laurie’s job is a Tire & AC repair shop. Stay tuned.
